Osteochondritis

•Disorders of actively growing epiphyses.

•The cause generally is unknown, but evidence indicates a lack of vascularity that may be the result of trauma, infection, or congenital malformation. (exc. Osgood-Schlatter disease is traumatic in origin)

Ex,

  1. Iselin’s Disease : Traction epiphysitis of the base of the fifth metatarsal

  2. Freiberg’s Disease : aseptic necrosis of MT head

  3. Kohler’s Disease : Osteochondrosis of Navicular, Aseptic Necrosis of navicular

  4. Osgood Schlatter Diseases : Osteochondritis of the tibial tubercle, strain or partial avulsion of tibial tubercle

  5. Osteochondrosis of Capitellum
